From Commerce to Meaning: A Journey Through Reinvention
For most of my career, I helped people navigate theirs — without realising I was heading toward my own.
I began my working life in the wool industry, managing $150 million in exports at just 21. It was an education in markets, negotiation, and the weight of responsibility. But deep down, I felt the quiet pull toward something more human, more creative. That tension — between commerce and meaning — would come to define every chapter that followed.
In my late twenties, I took a leap into real estate. I went from sales to leadership, to project marketing, to eventually founding my own agency, Hutton & Hutton. Over two decades, we grew it from two people in a serviced office to three boutique agencies and a team of thirty. We were known for our design-forward marketing and storytelling approach long before "brand" became a real estate buzzword.
And then, life shifted again. In 2024, after years of growth and success, my agency went into voluntary liquidation. It was one of those moments that brings you to your knees — and, strangely, to your truth. I was sixty, unemployed, and uncertain about what came next.
But uncertainty, I've learned, is the birthplace of clarity.
Out of that ending came a new beginning: a return to creativity and meaning. I began painting — creating what became known as Banana Man's Art — and started selling my work at the Byron Bay markets. That experience grounded me again in curiosity, connection, and play.
From there, a new idea began to take shape: What if the same principles that guided me through my own reinvention could help others facing theirs?
That question became Heroicly™ — a platform and methodology designed to help people at life's crossroads turn uncertainty into clarity.
Built on the Arcology™ Method, Heroicly combines storytelling, data, and insight to reveal who you are, where you're heading, and what your next chapter could look like. It's part psychology, part mythology, and entirely human.
At the same time, my love for innovation and systems led me back into tech — co-developing BuyersBrief, a PropTech platform designed to help buyer's agents and seller's agents connect through smarter data and storytelling.
What I've Learnt Along the Way
Reinvention isn't about changing who you are — it's about remembering.
Success without meaning is a detour.
And every ending carries a quiet invitation: to begin again, more honestly this time.
Today
I live and work from the Byron region, where I paint, write, and guide others through their next chapters — whether that's a career pivot, creative return, or a full-scale reinvention.
My mission through Heroicly is simple: To help people see their worth clearly, understand what's next, and step into it with courage.
